NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team competed at the MACFA "A" vs. "B" event, hosted by Hunter College, on Sunday. Yeshiva defeated the College of New Jersey, 20-7, and dropped contests to Drew University (22-5), Lafayette College (16-11), Rutgers University (18-9), and Cornell University (24-3).
In the match against Drew, the foil team won 5-4. Junior 
Spencer Brasch won all three of his bouts, while sophomore 
Jonathan Sidlow earned one win.
Against Lafayette, the epee team went 5-4. Sophomore 
James Alavosus and classmate 
Nolan Edmonson each won a pair of bouts, while senior 
Abraham Budow earned one victory. In foil, Brash and Sidlow each went 3-0.
Budow earned a win in epee against Rutgers, while Brasch swept his foil bouts. Sidlow also added a foil victory. In sabre, senior 
Jonathan Hoffman picked up two wins, while classmate 
Akiva Mager Garfield and senior 
Samuel Retter earned one.
Against Cornell, Brasch went 2-1 in foil bouts, while Retter had a win in sabre.
During Yeshiva's convincing win against the College of New Jersey, Alavosus and Edmonson each won all three epee bouts, while Budow added a victory of his own. In foil, Brasch and Sidlow won all three contests, while junior 
Jonah Taurog picked up one win. In sabre, Hoffman won all three bouts, Retter won two, and sophomore 
Jason Siev was victorious in one battle.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Sunday, February 5, for the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
