Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Farmingdale State, 79-46, on Sunday afternoon. The game was played on the campus of the College at Old Westbury.
Yeshiva (2-3, 0-2 Skyline) got off to a quick start as junior guard
Andrea Weiss launched a three-point field goal to put the Maccabees ahead, 3-1. Junior forward
Michal Alge found freshman guard
Laura Betesh, who laid the ball up and in, to extend Yeshiva's lead to 5-1 with 5:01 remaining in the opening quarter. The Rams (3-2, 2-0 Skyline) scored seven unanswered points to take an 8-5 lead. Senior guard
Tzipora Leiser nailed a field goal with less than a minute remaining to pull Yeshiva within one, at 8-7, and that would be the score at the end of one quarter of play.
Alge converted a layup to put Yeshiva up, 9-8, early in the second quarter. After Farmingdale State scored five unanswered points to regain the lead, Yeshiva countered with a 4-0 run, capped off by a layup from Alge, to tie the game at 13. From that point on, the Rams took complete control of the contest by going on a 14-3 run to take a commanding 27-15, with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half. The Maccabees would not be able to tie the game for the remainder of the contest, as Farmingdale outscored Yeshiva, 45-24, to earn the Skyline win.
For the afternoon, Leiser led the Maccabees with 11 points and forced two steals. Alge just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard
Tess Blaustein had nine points and a team-high five assists. Betesh added seven points, with four boards, and just as many assists. Senior forward
Simee Rosner grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Avigayil Wiener chipped in with four points. Junior forward
Chavi Charlap grabbed one rebound, while freshman guard
Penny Rabin forced one steal.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Tuesday, for a Skyline game against the Sage Colleges at the ARC Arena on the campus of Baruch College, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
