Women's Basketball Knocks Off Pratt To Earn First Victory of the Season

Box Score

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball earned its first victory of the season, by defeating Pratt Institute by a score of 75-63, on Tuesday evening at the Recreation Center. Yeshiva head coach Michael Alon earned his first career collegiate coaching victory.

It was another career-night for the reigning Skyline Rookie of the Week, Michal Alge, who netted a career-best 22 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and forcing five steals. Junior forward Simee Rosner produced a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while senior forward Julia Owen added 19 points with four steals. Junior guard Tess Blaustein dished out a game-high 10 assists. Senior guard Ester Kerzner added eight points with four steals.

With Yeshiva (1-7) trailing, 12-11, in the first quarter, Alge forced a steal and found Owen, who laid the ball up and in off a fastbreak to give the Maccabees a one-point advantage. Senior guard Yael Anna Hausdorff capped off Yeshiva's 8-0 run by nailing a jump-shot with five seconds left, to make it 19-11 Yeshiva.

The Maccabees scored the second stanza's first four points, and increased their run to 12 unanswered points overall, to extend their lead to 22-12. After Pratt (6-6) pulled to within eight, Yeshiva once again tilted momentum into its favor, by scoring eight points in a row, capped off by back-to-back two-point field goals by Owen, to extend its lead to 32-16 with 4:07 left in the opening half. Rosner's layup with five seconds remaining sent Yeshiva into the half with a 43-24 advantage.

In the third quarter, Alge's layup gave Yeshiva its largest lead of the game, 53-28, with 7:28 left in the stanza. Pratt rallied to narrow its deficit to 55-41 at the end of three quarters of play.

Yeshiva managed to pull away in the fourth quarter, as a layup by Owen put the Maccabees back up by 20, at 75-55, with just under two minutes remaining. Yeshiva went on to win, 75-63.

The Maccabees will look to continue their momentum on Thursday, when they battle the Panthers of Old Westbury in a road Skyline contest, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
