NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team hosted the MACFA Group B Round Robin at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees went 2-3 for the day, defeating Swarthmore University 22-5, and the College of New Jersey 21-6, while falling to New Jersey Institute of Technology 21-6, Stevens Institute of Technology 24-3, and narrowly falling to Army by a score of 14-13.
Against Swarthmore, the Maccabees went 8-1 in foil bouts. Sophomore
Spencer Brasch and freshman
Jonathan Sidlow picked up two wins each, while classmate
Yonah Shmalo had two foil victories of his own. The sabre squad also went 8-1 in the duel, as junior
Samuel Retter and classmate
Jack Sasson each earned three wins, while sophomore
Jonathan Hoffman added two. In epee, junior
Ariel Ancer, classmate
Alexander Koppel, and freshman
James Alavosus had two wins apiece.
Brasch and Sidlow each picked up two NCAA wins against NJIT, while Sasson and Hoffman each earned one. In epee, Ancer and Koppel each picked up an NCAA win against Stevens. Sasson added one more NCAA win to his record in a sabre bout against Stevens.
Brasch won all three of his bouts against Army, while Sidlow, Ancer, and Koppel each went 2-1. Yeshiva's foil unit went 9-0 against the College of New Jersey.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Sunday, for the MACFA A vs. B event on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology. The meet is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
