NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team will compete in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championships, beginning on Wednesday. The Maccabees will look to win their third straight conference tournament championship. Yeshiva enters the field as the #1 seed, and will host #4 Purchase College in a Skyline Conference semifinal on Wednesday, at the Binghamton Racquet Club, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
If the Maccabees defeat the Panthers, they will face the #3 Farmingdale State-# 2 Mount Saint Mary winner, in the championship match at Queens College on Sunday, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The Maccabees finished the regular season with an undefeated record of 7-0 in Skyline play, and 11-3 overall. In fact, Yeshiva has won 15 consecutive conference matches dating back to 2014.
This season, the Maccabees have been led by junior
David Papis Elon (Herzliya, Israel/Rothberg), who went 10-2 in #1 singles competition. He also won nine out of 10 contests at #1 doubles. He was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week twice and was inducted into the Skyline Conference weekly honor roll just as many times.
Senior
Dmitri Lebedyev (Holon, Israel/ORT Holon) has also been a key player for Yeshiva, going 11-2 in singles flights, including a win at second singles against Division I Fordham University. He cumulated an impressive 11-2 record in doubles matches and was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week on April 11.
Freshman
Mikey Ozery (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) has had an impressive rookie season for the Maccabees, earning a 7-3 record in singles duels, including a 2-0 record at #2 singles. He produced an incredible 8-1 mark in doubles matches, and went undefeated in first doubles competition, with a record of 5-0. He earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week accolades on April 11.
Yeshiva will aim for its third straight automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Last season, the Maccabees won their first NCAA tournament match in school history by defeating Colby-Sawyer College, 5-3.
