Three-peat! Men's Tennis Defeats Farmingdale State to Capture Third Straight Skyline Title

BOGOTA, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team once again made history on Sunday afternoon, by winning its third consecutive Skyline Conference Championship. Top seeded Yeshiva defeated #3 Farmingdale State, 5-0, at the CourtSense Bagota Racquet Club.

The Maccabees (13-3) have earned the automatic bid into the 2016 NCAA Postseason Tournament, and will look to build from the success of last season when they made it to the second round of the big dance.

"I am so proud of the team for making the NCAAs again," Yeshiva head coach Jon Rubinstein said. "The players worked on their games throughout the season and improved significantly. Every person from top to bottom on the team won conference matches. This truly is a team victory."

Yeshiva won all three of its doubles matches. Senior Steven Jemal and junior Adam Wannon kicked things off with a convincing win at #2 doubles, 8-0. Junior David Papis Elon and senior Dmitri Lebedyev continued Yeshiva's momentum by winning their #1 doubles contest, 8-2. Freshman Mikey Ozery and junior Eitan Rudansky wrapped up doubles play with a victory in the third flight, 8-2.

In singles play, Lebedyev cruised to a win at the #2 spot, 6-0 and 6-1. Papis Elon clinched Yeshiva's three-peat by dominating at #1 singles, 6-0 and 6-1.

The rest of the singles matches went unfinished. Ozery had the lead at #3 singles, 6-2 and 2-1. Jemal had the upper-hand in the fourth singles match, 6-2 and 2-0. Sophomore Charlie Friedman was winning in the fifth flight, 6-0 and 1-0, while senior Charles Saka had control of the sixth flight, 6-1 and 3-0.

Papis Elon was named Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Championship match.

The Maccabees will now wait until Monday to see who they will face and where, as the NCAA Division III men's tennis selection committee will announce the bracket at 12:00 p.m. The first round of the NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 12.
