STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's tennis team earned a convincing win over the College of State Island, 8-1, at the CSI Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva now starts the season with a 2-0 record.
The Maccabees won all three three doubles flights and won five of six singles contests.
In doubles competition, junior
Shani Hava teamed up with sophomore
Rebecca Packer to win the first flight, 8-3. Senior
Lindsay Frucher and junior
Adele Lerner won a close second doubles contest, 9-7. Senior
Anita Levy and classmate
Tzipora Leiser cruised to a third doubles win, 8-0.
In singles play, Hava won the #1 flight, winning the first set 7-5 before taking the win by forfeit. Frucher dominated at #3 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, while Packer won a much closer fourth singles match, 6-2, 4-6, and 10-5. Levy also won in a third set tiebreaker, winning in the #5 position, 7-5, 4-6, and 10-7. Senior
Dena Rubanowitz won at #6 singles, 6-1 and 6-2.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Tuesday, for a Skyline Conference contest against Purchase College. The match will take place at Queens College, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
