NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University men's basketball team kicks off the season against the College of Staten Island, at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Maccabees are projected to finish the season in third place in the conference standings, according to the Skyline Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Macs are coming off a season in which they qualified for the Skyline Conference championships for the third year in a row.
The Dolphins are the defending CUNYAC Tournament champions and competed in last year's NCAA men's basketball tournament. CSI finished with an overall record of 21-7.
Yeshiva will return 11 players from last year's team. Junior guard
Jamie Cappell rejoins the team, having last played for the Macs during his rookie season in 2015-16. The two newcomers are freshman guard
Yoav Deutsch and senior forward
Ethan Gipsman.
Expected to lead the way for Yeshiva this year is sophomore guard
Simcha Halpert, who was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in the 2016-17 season. Halpert was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on four separate occasions last year. The Los Angeles resident was second on the team in scoring, with an average of 13 points per game. The rookie phenom shot .449 (102-for-227) from the field and .382 (58-for-152) from beyond the arc. Defensively, Halpert forced 24 steals and blocked 12 shots last season.
