NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team competed in the MACFA "A" vs. "B" event, at Hunter College, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees went 2-2 during the afternoon, earning wins over The College of New Jersey (16-11) and Rutgers University (14-13), while falling to Drew University (22-5) and Cornell University (24-3).
In the win over the College of New Jersey, senior
Yosef Kerendian and junior
Noah Sragow each went 2-1 in sabre duels, while sophomore
Roei Ben-Shimon picked up a sabre win of his own. In epee, junior
James Alavosus and classmate
Nolan Edmonson each won two out of three bouts. In foil, senior
Spencer Brasch won all three duels, while senior
Jonah Taurog and freshman
Jacob Tokayer each went 2-1.
Brasch came back to win all three of his NCAA foil bouts over Drew University. In that same team duel, Sragow earned an NCAA win in sabre, while senior
Abraham Budow picked up an NCAA win in his epee bout in dramatic fashion, by a score of 5-4.
Against Cornell University, Edmonson went 2-1 in epee, while Brasch was victorious in one foil bout.
In the team duel against Rutgers University, Sragow went 2-1 in sabre, while Brasch went a perfect 3-0 in foil.
For the afternoon, Brasch went 10-2.
The Maccabees will take a break, but will be back in action on Sunday, February 11, for the MACFA Group "B" round robin at Stevens Institute of Technology, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
