Strong Start For Women's Basketball Not Enough Against Mount Saint Vincent

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to College of Mount Saint Vincent, 86-57, on Tuesday evening, at The Doghouse. The loss brings the Maccabees to a 3-18 (1-15 Skyline) record.

 

The first quarter was a hard-fought battle featuring several lead changes. Yeshiva shot the ball well from beyond the arc, as senior forward Tess Blaustein, classmate Tzipora Leiser, and freshman guard Laura Betesh each drained three-point field goals that helped Yeshiva gain a 13-7 advantage, with 5:25 left in the opening period. A late three-pointer from the Dolphins (17-7, 13-4 Skyline) would give the visiting team the edge, 23-21 at the end of the first stanza. CMSV would come out swinging in the second quarter, posting an 11-2 run in the opening five minutes. The Dolphins' momentum would last for the remainder of the game, as Mount Saint Vincent went on to earn the conference victory..
 

Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior forward Michal Alge, notching 18 points with 12 rebounds, for her 13th double-double of the season. Senior forward Tess Blaustein contributed with nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman guard Laura Betesh scored eight points, while dishing out six assists, collecting a rebound, and forcing three steals. Senior forward Simee Rosner brought down nine rebounds and posted eight points, as well as forcing a steal and blocking a shot. Junior guard Andrea Weiss and upperclassman Tzipora Leiser each provided six points off the bench, with the latter collecting four rebounds and forcing a steal. Leiser also drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter.


The Maccabees will be back in action this Thursday night, when they square off against The College at Old Westbury in another Skyline Conference game, at the Clark Athletic Center beginning at 8:00 p.m.
