Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought Skyline Conference loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 58-43, on Sunday afternoon at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The loss brings the Macs to a 2-16 (0-13 Skyline) record.
The Mariners jumped out to an 11-0 lead within the first three minutes of the game, and they would not look back. After the first quarter, Yeshiva trailed USMMA 21-6. The Macs outscored the Mariners 18-15 in the second stanza.
The Maccabees were led by senior forward
Tess Blaustein's 12 points, and three rebounds, as well as junior forward
Michal Alge's 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Each player also produced a block, respectively. Freshman guard
Laura Betesh added four points, five rebounds, and four assists, and sophomore guard
Avigayil Wiener contributed with a career-high 12 points off the bench.
Although the Macs outscored the Mariners 12-8 in the 4th quarter, it wouldn't be enough as USMMA would improve to an 11-8 (7-7 Skyline) record.
The Maccabees look to bounce back on Tuesday night, when they face off at home against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, at Baruch College at 7:00 p.m.
