Box Score PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University men's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup against St. Joseph's L.I., 71-47, at the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva now falls one game behind the College at Old Westbury for second place in the South Division and remain in fifth place in the Skyline Conference overall.
Yeshiva (12-7, 8-3 Skyline) had the edge early, as senior forward
Dean Pienica opened the game with a layup, assisted by senior forward
Michael Berg. Later in the half, Berg converted a layup to put the Macs up, 11-9, with 13:12 remaining in the half.
Yeshiva's strong beginning was not enough as the Golden Eagles (7-14, 6-6 Skyline) took over the game by going on a 19-6 to take a commanding 30-17 lead with 5:23 remaining in the period. St. Joseph's Long Island never looked back and went on to to win the Skyline Conference contest, 71-47.
For the game, the Maccabees shot just 28.6% from the field, while the Golden Eagles converted 46.3% of their field goal attempts.
All the Maccabees appeared in the game. Berg had a team-high 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Senior guard
Jordan Hod added five points with four rebounds and two steals. Freshman players
Kevin Bokor,
Tyler Hod, and
Nicolas Leibovich each scored their first collegiate points in the contest. Bokor produced two points with three rebounds, while
Tyler Hod went 4-7 from the free throw line. Leibovich scored one point, brought down two rebounds, blocked one shot, and dished out an assist. Freshman guard
Daniel Poleyeff scored four points and forced a steal.
The Macs will be on the road for their next game on Tuesday, at the College at Old Westbury, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
