EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team narrowly defeated Oneonta State in a hard-fought match, 5-4, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Wednesday evening. Yeshiva now remains undefeated at 3-0.
The match came down to the #6 singles flight. With both teams tied, 4-4, junior
Charlie Friedman competed against Nicholas Fox to determine which team would earn the match victory. Friedman dropped the first set, 6-3, but bounced back to win the next one by the same score. In the third set tiebreaker, the Montreal native defeated his opponent, 10-6, to claim #6 singles and clinch a victory for his team.
Oneonta State (2-4) took two out of three doubles matches. Sophomore
Adam Rosemblaum and freshman
Lior Brik provided Yeshiva's lone doubles win in thrilling fashion, 9-8, at the #1 position.
Senior
David Papis Elon won at #1 singles, 6-3, 7-6, while sophomore
Mikey Ozery was victorious in the third flight, 6-3, 6-3. Brik cruised to a win at #4 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Yeshiva will return to the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday, for a non-conference match against Hunter College, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
