Men's Soccer to Battle Old Westbury in Key Skyline Contest on Friday Morning

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team will host the College at Old Westbury, in a critical Skyline matchup at Votee Park, on Friday morning. The showdown is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

If the Maccabees are able to pull out a win, they will clinch a spot in the upcoming Skyline Conference championships for just the second time in team history.

The Macs and Panthers are currently holding playoff spots. Yeshiva is in fifth place with a record of 5-2 in the Skyline (7-4 overall), while Old Westbury is occupying the sixth and final playoff spot, holding a conference record of 2-1-4 (6-5-4 overall).

A fan bus will depart from 186th and Amsterdam at 11:00 a.m., and head to Votee Park. The bus will take students and staff back to campus, after the match concludes. For fans that cannot make it to the contest, live stats will be available by clicking here.

Old Westbury has won the last two head-to-head meetings. The Maccabees' last win over the Panthers was a 2-1 nail-biter, back in 2015. That year, Yeshiva clinched its first postseason berth in program history.

Leading the way for the Maccabees has been freshman forward Jonah Beberman. The Highland Park native is ranked third in the conference with 10 goals in his rookie campaign, including a Skyline-best four game-winners. Sophomore forward Alberto Benhamu has scored five goals and added a pair of assists, while senior midfielder Dan Cohen leads the team with five helpers. Freshman goalkeeper Edgar Schottland is having an impressive rookie season, earning seven wins in net. He stopped all seven shots he faced to earn his first collegiate shutout victory, over Southern Vermont, back on September 5.

For Old Westbury, Edens Avril leads the way with nine goals so far this season. Nick Gino has tallied five goals of his own, while Daniel Reisken has executed a team-best three assists. In goal, Mike Warren has earned five shutouts to help keep Old Westbury in the thick of the playoff race.
