Men's Soccer Looks to Clinch Skyline Playoff Spot in Regular Season Finale at Purchase on Wednesday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team will close out the regular season with a critical Skyline Conference contest against host Purchase College, up in Westchester, N.Y., on Wednesday evening. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.

Yeshiva (7-6, 5-4 Skyline) is currently tied with Farmingdale State (9-7, 5-4 Skyline) for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Skyline Conference standings. The Maccabees have the tiebreaker over the Rams, thanks to winning their head-to-head meeting earlier in the season.

A Yeshiva victory or a Farmingdale State loss will allow YU to clinch a berth in the Skyline Conference Championships for only the second time in program history. The Rams would need both a victory and a Macs' loss or tie to qualify for the conference postseason. If both teams settle for ties in their respective matchups, Yeshiva would be awarded the sixth and final playoff spot.

The Maccabees still have a shot at hosting a first round game. A YU win, combined with losses or ties by St. Joseph's Long Island and Old Westbury on Wednesday, will propel the Macs to the fourth seed and a home playoff match.

Farmingdale State will take on Maritime College on Wednesday evening, in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Maritime will have live stats and live streaming video of the contest.

Purchase is eliminated from playoff contention, but can play spoiler. In last season's head-to-head matchup, the Panthers won a thriller over the Macs in double overtime. Yeshiva's last victory over the Purchase came in 2015, the same year the Maccabees clinched their first ever berth in the Skyline Conference Championships.

Leading the way for Yeshiva has been freshman forward Jonah Beberman. The Highland Park native is ranked third in the conference with 10 goals in his rookie campaign, including a Skyline-best four game-winners. Sophomore forward Alberto Benhamu has scored five goals and added a pair of assists, while senior midfielder Dan Cohen leads the team with five helpers. Freshman goalkeeper Edgar Schottland is having an impressive rookie season, earning seven wins in net. He stopped all seven shots he faced to earn his first collegiate shutout victory, over Southern Vermont, back on September 5.

The Panthers are led by senior Yianni Amvrosiatos, who has four goals and five assists this season.
