POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team competed in the Vassar College Invitational, at the Walker Field House, on Sunday afternoon. YU dropped team duels to Vassar (24-3), Sacred Heart University University (23-4), Hunter College (22-5), Army (18-9), University of Incarnate Word (25-2), Haverford College (19-8), Stevens Institute of Technology (24-3), and Drew University (21-6).
The epee team earned a win over West Point, 6-3. Newcomer
Joshua Polster won all three bouts, while senior
James Alavosus went 2-1. Sophomore
Ilan Marouani earned a victory of his own. In sabre, freshman
Noah Shafron and sophomore
Avi Glazer each earned a win, while first-year fencer
Kendrick Reyes won a foil duel.
The epee team was also victorious over Haverford, by a score of 8-1. Alavosus won all three of his duels, while Marouani and Polster each took two out of three battles.
Polster won all three epee duels over Hunter, while Marouani added an NCAA win of his own. In foil, Reyes added another victory.
In the battle against Drew, Polster once again went 3-0 in epee duels. Marouani and Alavosus were each victorious in one battle to clinch a victory for the epee team, 5-4. Shafron won a sabre duel, 5-3. Polster picked up another win, this time against Sacred Heart.
Polster collected two more epee wins over Vassar, while Alavosus was victorious in one epee battle.
Marouani and Alavosus each earned a win over Stevens, while Shafron picked up an NCAA victory of his own. Glazer and Alavosus were each victorious in one duel over Incarnate Word in sabre and epee, respectively.
In total, Polster earned 14 victories, with 11 of those triumphs counting towards the NCAA.
The Maccabees will compete in the MACFA "A" vs. "B" meet, at the Kirby Sports Center, on Sunday morning. Lafayette College will serve as the host.
