Men's Basketball to Battle Nationally-Ranked No. 8 Williams College

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team faces a big test on Sunday, as the Maccabees host the nationally-ranked No. 8 Ephs of Williams College. Tip-off at the Max Stern Athletic Center is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Williams enters the contest with an impressive 4-0 record to start the year. The defending NESCAC champions are coming off a victory over Manhattanville, 85-73, at Kennedy Gymnasium on Saturday. As a team, the Ephs are shooting 55 percent from the field, including 43 percent from beyond the arc. Individually, senior forward Kyle Scadlock is averaging 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. Classmate James Heskett leads the team in scoring with 16 points per game, while senior guard Bobby Casey is producing 15.3 points, bringing down 5.8 boards, and distributing four assists per evening.

The defending Skyline Conference champions are off to a slow start, suffering three consecutive heartbreakers to begin the year. Yeshiva is coming off a narrow 91-88 loss to Skyline rival Sarah Lawrence College, at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Tuesday evening. The Macs entered the season in the receiving votes section of the D3hoops.com top 25 preseason poll. YU is projected to finish first in this season's Skyline standings.

Leading the way for the Maccabees has been junior forward Gabriel Leifer, who is averaging a double-double with 18 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, as well as a team-best five assists per evening. Freshman guard Ryan Turell is making an impact in his young collegiate career, averaging 21 points per contest. Junior guard Simcha Halpert made his season debut earlier this week against Sarah Lawrence College. The Los Angeles native scored 21 points, shooting 50 percent from the field, and dished out four assists.

In last year's head-to-head meeting, Williams (ranked No. 3 in the nation at the time) defeated Yeshiva by a score of 78-65, at the John Wesley Chandler Athletic Center, on November 26.
