Rosemblaum Triumphs At No. 1 Singles Flight to Clinch First Win of Season for Men's Tennis

EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a narrow victory over Oneonta State, 5-4, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Tuesday evening. The defending four-time Skyline Conference champions are now 1-1 against Division III competition this season.

Yeshiva (1-3) dropped two out of three doubles flights, but came back to win four out of six singles matches to earn its first victory of the season. With the match deadlocked at 4-4, it came down to junior Adam Rosemblaum's #1 singles battle. After dropping the first set, 6-2, he came back to win the second by a score of 6-3. It came down to the 10-point match tiebreaker, where Rosemblaum earned the win by a score of 10-6 to clinch the singles win, and the team victory for Yeshiva.

"The guys fought hard," Yeshiva University head coach Jon Rubinstein said.

The lone Yeshiva doubles win came from Rosemblaum and sophomore Lior Brik by an 8-2 margin. Brik came back and won a tight #5 singles flight. Like Rosemblaum, he dropped the first set and won the second. He earned the victory in the 10-point match tiebreaker, 10-4, to earn a point for YU.

"Props to Lior and Adam for not only their comprehensive doubles win, but their great comebacks in singles when it counted," Rubinstein said.

To kick off the singles portion of the match, Freshman Dor Gutterman won at the third position, 6-2, 6-1. After Yeshiva fell behind again, junior Mikey Ozery turned momentum back in the Macs' favor by winning at #2 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Both teams split the next two singles flights, leading Rosemblaum to win the deciding position and clinch the team win.

"Dor really stepped up at singles to even us up," Rubinstein said. "Mikey showed his game is rounding into form."

The Maccabees will return to the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday, for a non-conference match against Baruch College. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
