Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Frohlich's Hard-Fought No. 1 Singles Victory Not Enough For Women's Tennis Against Farmingdale State

BRONX - The Yeshiva University women's tennis team suffered its first Skyline Conference loss of the year, to Farmingdale State College by a score of 8-1, at Crotona Park on Wednesday evening. The Rams (5-1, 1-0 Skyline) won all three doubles flights, and went 5-1 in singles play, to earn the win.

Senior Bailey Frohlich closed the match strong for the Maccabees (4-2, 3-1 Skyline), as she earned a tight victory at the first singles position, 7-5, 7-5. The Boca Raton native has now won three straight Skyline No. 1 singles contests.

"Bailey put out a champion's effort in a hard-fought and well-deserved win," Yeshiva University Head Coach Danielle Carr said. "Her victory demonstrated exactly why she's the person playing at the number one spot and why she's the team co-captain. She showed what she's made of, the grit and fortitude we have been coaching the team on all season. The team rallied around her in her final set and they showed great support and teamwork."

Yeshiva now stands in sole possession of second place in the conference standings. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will earn a spot in the Skyline championships.

Carr was very pleased with her team's effort against Farmingdale State, despite the result. "We may not have won the match but winning one court at No. 1 singles goes to show that even when we are down, we are never completely out of the fight," Carr said.

Yeshiva will look to get back on track in Skyline play on Thursday, with a showdown at Purchase College, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
