PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's tennis team earned an important conference victory, on Thursday afternoon, as the Maccabees defeated the Panthers of Purchase College by a score of 6-3. YU remains in sole possession of second place in the league standings, advancing to 4-1 in Skyline matches (5-2 overall). It was the first conference match of the season for the host Panthers (0-4, 0-1 Skyline).
"The girls were steadfast in their determination to win tonight," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Danielle Carr said. "Their belief in themselves and each other never wavered."
Leading the way for the Maccabees was sophomore
Mali Lobel, who had a successful collegiate debut by earning victories at No. 3 doubles (8-2) and No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-1).
"We had a fabulous surprise from Lobel at both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles," Carr said. "She went from a walk on, to playing exhibition, to making the lineup and really delivering when her team needed her most. We could not be more proud of her and everyone tonight."

Amanda Berlin teamed with Lobel to earn the convincing No. 3 doubles victory, and came back to win every game in her No. 5 singles match.

Alexandra Huberfeld combined forces to pick up the win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Huberfeld was also victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Shana Adler dominated her No. 2 singles flight, earning the win by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline match at Mount Saint Mary College, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
