NEW YORK – D3hoops.com released its preseason Top 25 men's basketball poll, on Friday morning, and the Yeshiva University men's basketball team is ranked No. 2 in the nation. It's the highest national ranking in program history. In fact, Yeshiva received three first-place votes. YU finished just behind top-ranked Randolph-Macon.
"Always nice to get recognition as a program but we are just trying to win our first game," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Elliot Steinmetz said.
The Maccabees will enter the 2021-22 season on a 36-game winning streak, which is tied for the second longest streak in Division III men's basketball history. This stretch includes a Skyline Conference Championship and two victories in the NCAA Tournament. YU went 29-1 in 2019-20, advancing all the way to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Postseason, and then went undefeated at 7-0 in the shortened 2020-21 campaign.
D3hoops.com All-Americans
Gabriel Leifer and
Ryan Turell will be rejoining the team, as will 2021 All-Met Team honoree
Eitan Halpert. The reigning Skyline Rookie of the Year,
Ofek Reef, will be back with the program as well. Two transfers will join the Maccabees' quest for a National Championship, Ethan Lasko and Jordan Armstrong. Lasko played basketball the last three years at Division I Manhattan College and competed for the Indiana University Hoosiers during his freshman year. Armstrong played the last three years at Oberlin College. The full roster will be published soon.
