MADISON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team continued its 2021-22 campaign by participating in the Rangers Fall Invitational, on the campus of Drew University, on Sunday afternoon. YU dropped its matches to Drew University (19-8), the United States Naval Academy (20-7), Stevens Institute of Technology (25-2), Vassar College (24-3), Drew University (22-5), and Army (22-5).

Yeshiva's epee team defeated Drew University, 5-4. Zaelig Averch won all three bouts using the epee weapon, while Joshua Polster earned a pair of epee wins. Edward Shindleman won two out of three sabre battles, while Shmuel Aberman earned a sabre victory of his own.

YU's epee team also earned the win over Navy, 6-3. Averch once again went three-for-three, while Polster won two out of three duels. William Lerer earned an epee win of his own. Aberman added a victory using the sabre weapon.

Averch and Polster each added an epee victory over Stevens. The former went 2-1 against Vassar, while the latter earned one epee victory over the Brewers.

Against Drew, Averch went 2-1 in epee duels, while Polster added yet another epee win. Alexander Siegman and Aberman were victorious in foil and sabre, respectively.

In the final match against Army, Averch and Polster each won two out of three epee battles. Shindleman earned a sabre victory.

For the afternoon, Averch went 13-5, while Polster won nine epee battles.

Yeshiva will return to Drew University next Sunday, for the second Rangers Fall Invitational, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
