MADISON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team opened the 2020-21 season with three losses (22-5, 21-6, and 20-7) to Drew University, at the Simon Forum, on Sunday afternoon.
In the opening bout, senior
Joshua Polster went 2-1 in epee battles. Junior
Zaelig Averch earned an epee victory of his own and came back to win two out of three foil battles.
In the second matchup between Yeshiva and Drew, Averch improved in epee by going 2-1 and remained consistent by picking up a pair of foil victories. Polster added a win with the epee weapon. Sophomore
Edward Shindleman was victorious in one sabre duel.
In the third and final battle between the two schools, Averch and Polster each went 2-1 in epee combat, while senior
Ilan Marouani won an epee bout of his own. In his third tour with the foil weapon, Averch once again went 2-1.
For the afternoon, Averch won six out of nine foil battles and earned 11 wins overall. Polster was victorious in five epee duels.
