NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team competed in the MACFA "A" vs. "B" event, at Hunter College Sportsplex, on Sunday afternoon. The highlight of the day was Yeshiva defeating Rowan University, 15-12.
In the victory over Rowan, the YU epee team won a tight battle, 5-4. Newcomer
Aaron Bonert led the way by winning all three epee duels. Fellow rookie
Natanel Lewis won two out of three epee bouts over the Profs.
The Macs' foil team dominated the Profs' foil squad, 7-2. Senior
Brian Bendel won all three matchups, while sophomore
Alexander Siegman and newcomer
Aden Lyons each went 2-1.
In the sabre battles against Rowan, sophomore
Jonathan Laredo won two out of three duels. Newcomer
Noam Ben Simon notched a sabre victory of his own.
Also, during the afternoon, Yeshiva dropped team duels to Cornell University (14-13), Drew University (27-0), Lafayette College (23-4), and Rutgers University (27-0).
Bendel (foil), Bonert (epee), Laredo (sabre), and junior
Jonathan Werta (epee), each won a bout against Cornell using their respective weapons. Siegman notched a foil victory over Lafayette.
Yeshiva will return to action on Sunday, January 29, for the Eric Sollee MIT Invitational, on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Start time is to be announced.
