MADISON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's fencing team competed in the Rangers Fall Invitational II, at Simon Forum, on Sunday morning. The Macs foil team earned hard-fought victories over Long Island University, 6-3, and Denison University, 5-4.
The YU epee team battled to a 3-3 tie with LIU.
Overall, the Maccabees dropped team duels to Lafayette College (26-1), LIU (15-9), University of Pittsburgh (22-5), Denison (21-6), Rutgers University (27-0), and University of Florida (18-9).
During Yeshiva's foil win over LIU, senior
Brian Bendel, sophomore
Alexander Siegman, and newcomer
Aden Lyons each won two out of three duels.
In the narrow foil victory over Denison, Lyons and Siegman each went 2-1, while Bendel claimed a victory of his own.
The YU foil team fell just short to Florida, 5-4. Lyons went 2-1 over the Gators, while Bendel and Siegman each won a battle.
In epee, newcomer
Aaron Bonert won four bouts, one each against Lafayette, LIU, Denison, and Florida. Fellow rookie
Natanel Lewis won both battles against LIU, and then added a victory over Pittsburgh.
In sabre, rookie Noah Ben Simon earned a win over both Denison and Florida. Junior
Benjamin Bruder claimed a matchup over Pittsburgh and Florida.
Yeshiva will compete in the Vassar College Invitational, at Walker Field House, on Sunday. The action begins at 10:00 a.m.
