Poughkeepsie, NY - Competing up at Vassar College, the Yeshiva men's fencing team took part in the Vassar Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Facing off against a number of excellent teams, the Maccabees crossed swords with Denison University, Sacred Heart University, Drew University, Hunter College, Cornell University, Vassar College and Stevens Institute of Technology.
At the conclusion of the tournament, the Macs tout a 1-19 record on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting off the morning up against Denison, YU fell by a score of 25-2, seeing their duel wins come in foil through the swordwork of Alexander Siegman, and then in epee thanks to Natanel Lewis.
- Moving on to round two, the Macs lost to Sacred Heart 26-1, with their only win coming in foil off of the sword of Siegman.
- Taking on Drew in round number three, Yeshiva dropped the match 25-2, seeing a win in foil from Siegman and a win in saber from Noam Ben Simon.
- Facing off against Hunter in round four, the Macs picked up their first match win of the year, taking down the Hawks by a score of 18-9. Starting off strong in saber, YU defeated their competition 9-0, seeing duel wins out of Ephraim Balsam, Benjamin Bruder and Ben Simon. Carrying that momentum into foil the Macs took the bout 5-4, with Siegman, Aden Lyons and Shneur Levy all capturing points for the Macs. While Yeshiva dropped epee 5-4, their lead proved insurmountable, as the Macs took care of the Hawks.
- Closing out the day up against three tough opponents, the Macs fell to Cornell, Vassar and Stevens by scores of 25-2, 23-4 and 26-1 respectively.

Seeing their first MACFA action of the year, the Macs will travel to Hunter College for the MACFA A vs B tournament on Sunday, Nov. 19.
