Men’s Basketball Falls Short of Victory at Farmingdale


NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team was on the road at Farmingdale last night, a contest that pitted the conference's 5th and 6th place teams. Standings remained the same however, as Farmingdale got the 66-59 win to remain in 5th place. The Rams improved their record to 2-4 (2-1) while Yeshiva dropped to 4-5 (3-3) on the season.


Yeshiva opened the game with an 11-1 run, grabbing the game's only double digit lead for either team. Farmingdale spent the next 10 minutes chipping away at the lead, before finally taking their first lead with 5:56 to play. The teams went back and forth with 4 lead changes, before the Rams scored the final four points to take a 36-32 lead into the locker room.


The Macs continued their tough play, fighting back and taking a three point lead on two different occasions midway through the final stanza. A free throw by Chen Biron gave Yeshiva a 54-53 edge that didn't change until more than two minutes later, when Farmingdale took the lead for good.


As a team, the Macs shot 43% from the field for the game, including 37% from behind the arc. Farmingdale shot 49% from the field, and 29% from three point range. The difference in the game came down to free throws; Yeshiva shot 4-14 (29%) while Farmingdale was 7-12 (58%).


Martin Leibovich scored a team high 17 points on 7-13 shooting. Biron had 14 points in 35 minutes played. David Gilboa came off the bench to score 12, as the only three to score in double figures. Omer Haim led the team with 6 assists, matching a season high.


Up next for the Macs will be Baruch College at home Saturday evening. The game is scheduled for an 8:30PM tip-off. Baruch enters the contest with a 5-1 overall record.
