(Bronx, NY) – Senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) went 2 for 4, including a double, and junior Seth Fein (Woodmere, NY/Hebrew Academy of Long Beach) and sophomore Daniel Finkelstein (West Orange, NJ/Kushner Yeshiva) each drove in runs but the Yeshiva University Baseball team lost its second straight game, 16-3 to Baruch College on March 12 at Taft High School. With the loss, YU is now 0-2.
Baruch opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, but Yeshiva quickly tied things in the bottom of the frame when sophomore Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Fein. However, Yeshiva was unable to stop a potent Baruch offense as the Bearcats scored runs in the second and third innings, and then exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth inning to break the game wide open.
The Maccabees scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 8-3 as Fein tripled home junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) and Finkelstein brought Fine home with a single, but that was as close as Yeshiva would get.
Yeshiva was out-hit 19-6 and four Yeshiva errors proved to be costly as YU allowed five unearned runs. Yeshiva did, however, have an excellent night on the bases, as the Maccabees stole all seven bases they attempted.
Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday, March 15 when the Maccabees host Farmingdale State for a 12:00 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader.
