Baseball swept by Mount Saint Mary in Skyline Conference twinbill

(Bronx, NY) – Four Maccabees registered at least one hit and one RBI apiece, including junior Aaron Korda's (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) 3 for 3, RBI effort, and junior David Kesselman (West Hempstead, NY/DRS Yeshiva) pitched yet another gem for the Maccabees, but the Yeshiva University Baseball team was downed by Mount Saint Mary, 22-3 and 7-4 during a Skyline Conference Baseball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Taft High School. With the losses, YU is now 0-7 overall and 0-5 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener was all Mount Saint Mary as the Blue Knights led 9-0 after three innings, and then a 10-run top of the sixth inning blew the game wide open. Junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) provided highlights for YU as he pitched 3.1 innings without allowing an earned run, and struck out four.

On the offensive side, three different Maccabees drove in runs, while sophomore Daniel Finkelstein (West Orange, NJ/Kushner Yeshiva) went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

The nightcap proved to be a different story as Kesselman was brilliant on the mound, pitching a complete game and junior Aaron Korda (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) went 3 for 3. Yeshiva led 1-0 after the first inning, and the game was tied 3-3 after three innings, but Mount Saint Mary rallied for three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth inning to secure the win.

Yeshiva returns to action on Tuesday night when the Maccabees host St. Joseph's (LI) at 7:45 p.m.
