Baseball swept by Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference doubleheader

(Yaphank, NY) – Junior David Kesselman (W. Hempstead, NY/DRS Yeshiva) and fellow junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) eached pitched outstanding baseball, both throwing complete games, as the Yeshiva University Baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Skyline Conference powerhouse Mount Saint Vincent, 4-0 and 6-2, at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York. With the losses, YU is now 1-11 overall and 0-9 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener saw the Maccabees shut-out as YU combined for four hits, but the story of the game was Kesselman, who allowed only two hits and three earned runs, striking out one batter. Mount Saint Vincent scored all four of their runs during the first two innings, but YU was never able to muster a rally to make the game closer.

The nightcap saw Yeshiva jump out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Seth Fein (Woodmere, NY/Hebrew Academy of Long Beach) scored on an error, and Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA) singled home Aaron Korda (Los Angeles, CA/YULA). However, Mount Saint Vincent scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, two more in the bottom of the fourth inning, and one more in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 6-2 final.

Weiner was outstanding for YU, allowing four earned runs during eight innings of work. He struck out five, while walking only one.

Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday, April 5 when the Maccabees travel to Purchase College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
