Purchase sweeps Yeshiva in Baseball doubleheader

(Purchase, NY) – Senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) and junior Binyamin Cooper (Teaneck, NJ/MTA) had two hits apiece, and junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) pitched three fantastic innings in relief, but the Yeshiva University Baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Purchase College, 17-6 and 8-6, on Sunday at Purchase College. With the losses, YU is now 1-13 overall and 0-11 in Skyline Conference play.

The opener saw Purchase jump out to an 11-0 lead after four innings and never look back despite two hits apiece from Seth Fein (Woodmere, NY/Hebrew Academy of Long Beach) and Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA). Schwartz also drove in two runs, as did junior Yonathon Raab (Maale Adumim, Israel/Bet-El).

Yeshiva did not stay down for long as the Maccabees opened the nightcap with two runs in the top of the first inning, and four more during the top of the second, with Gornish getting two hits and two RBI's during the stretch. However, YU could not hold the lead as Purchase College rallied for a combined eight runs during the next four innings to take the lead for good. Weiner was terrific in relief, allowing a single run during three innings of work.

Yeshiva returns to action after the Passover break as they host St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Sunday, April 19 at 12:00 p.m.
