Yeshiva breaks school record for Baseball wins in a season with 19-15 triumph over Polytechnic

(Brooklyn, NY) – Junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) went 2 for 6 with four RBIs, and Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA), Binyamin Cooper (Teaneck, NJ/MTA), and Michael Litwin (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) drove in three runs apiece as the Yeshiva University Baseball team broke a school record for wins in a season after taking a 19-15 thriller from Polytechnic on Thursday night at Keyspan Park. With the win, YU is now 3-14 overall.

The game proved to be a wild one as the two teams combined for 34 runs (18 of which were earned) and 34 hits. Yeshiva seemed to have the game at hand after a four-run rally in both the fourth and fifth innings gave YU a 16-7 lead. However, Polytechnic responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 16-11, and after Yeshiva made it 18-11 in the top of the seventh inning, the Fighting Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the frame to make it 18-13. With Yeshiva ahead 19-13 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Polytechnic scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to make things interesting, but with runners on second and third and two outs, Weiner induced a groundout to end the game.

Six Maccabees registered at least two hits apiece and five Maccabees had at least two RBI's.

Yeshiva returns to action on Friday morning when the Maccabees travel to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
