(New York, NY) - Junior David Kahana (Silver Spring, MD/MJBHA) notched a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs to go with three service aces, and senior Joseph Bajtner (Skokie, IL/Ida Crown Jewish Academy) added 14 assists as the Yeshiva University Men's Volleyball team opened the 2009 season with a 3-0 loss to Purchase College on Thursday night at the Max Stern Athletics Center.

Despite a valiant effort by a much improved Yeshiva team, Purchase swept the match 30-26, 30-14, and 30-27.

Kahana and Bajtner were outstanding as Yeshiva hit .060 as a team, and combined for nine services, 35 digs, and 6.5 total team blocks.

Also enjoying fine performances for Yeshiva were junior David Katz (Suffern, NY/MTA), who had eight kills, sophomore Rafi Herskovits (Hamilton, Ontatio/Or Chaim) added seven kills, and junior Nachum Hascalovici (Montreal, Canada/Hebrew Academy) added a team-high 13 digs.

Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday, January 25 when the Maccabees travel to York College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
