Men’s Volleyball Splits Season Opening Tri-Match with York and Purchase

Kahanna had 29 kills and 31 digs on the day
NEW YORK, NY – The men's volleyball team hosted York College and Purchase College in the season opener for the Macs Sunday afternoon. After dropping the first match against York, the Macs came back and defeated Purchase to start the season at 1-1.

In the opener against York, the match went the maximum five games and then some, as both teams were evenly matched. York took the first and third games 30-24 and 30-20, while Yeshiva won games two and four, 30-27 and 30-27. The fifth and deciding game, which is played “first to 15, win by 2” need two extra points, as York finally got the edge 17-15.

Joseph Bajtner led the team with 25 assists, while also recording 10 digs. David Kahanna led the team in kills (19) and digs (15). Raphael Herskovits had 13 kills and 4 blocks.

In the second game against Purchase, the Macs took the first two games, 30-25, 30-24 and dropped the third 23-30. Yeshiva quickly put the match away with a strong 30-18 win in the fourth game.

Bajtner again led the team in assists with 22, while Kahanna led in both kills (10) and digs (16). Zanvy Grauman followed with 7 kills, and Raphael Herskovits added 5 kills and 2.5 blocks.

The men will stay home and face Medgar Evers on Tuesday for an 8PM game.
