Men’s Basketball Falls Short of Upset of Conference’s Top Team

NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team fell short on the road against Old Westbury, the Skyline's top ranked team. After back-to-back games with less than average shooting percentages, the Macs finally found their rhythm and shot 48% from the field, but rebounding proved to be the difference in the game, which ended at 72-66. The Macs (6-10, 5-7) were outrebounded on the offensive boards 16-7 by the Panthers (13-5, 11-2).

Martin Leibovich had his fourth double-double of the season (2nd in a row) with a team high 18 points and 14 rebounds. Omer Haim nearly recorded a double-double, falling a single point shy. He ended the game with 9 points and 11 assists. Chen Biron added 10 points.

Yeshiva held a brief first half lead by as much as 4, but the Panthers came back and extended their lead to 14 on two separate occasions. A 12-2 run to close the half by the Macs cut the lead to 35-31 in favor of the home team going into the locker room.

Throughout the second half, the Macs kept the game close, and with 3:24 left, they held a 4 point lead. An 8-0 run over the next two minutes by the Panthers gave them the lead for good. Leibovich hit two free throws with 1:07 left to pull the Macs to within 2, but two Yeshiva turnovers on their next two possessions sealed the game for Old Westbury.

Yeshiva will finish the week on the road at Bard on Sunday at 4PM. The Maccabees defeated the Raptors 87-63 earlier in the season.
