NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team grabbed their first victory of the season with a 52-49 road win at Skyline opponent Bard Tuesday night. The Macs were tied at 46 with 3 minutes to play, but went on a 5-0 run and eventually took the game by 3. Yeshiva stands at 1-4 (1-1) while Bard dropped to 0-4 (0-1).
Dovie Hoffman led the Macs' attack with a double-double 20 points and 13 rebounds, making this his third such feat of the season (second straight).
Omer Haim had 10 points as the only other Maccabee to score in double figures.
Chen Biron,
Yoni Eckmann, and
Gil Bash each had 6 points.
Chen Sina recorded a team-high 5 assists.
Yeshiva jumped out to a very good start, scoring the game's first 6 points and opened that up to an 11-point lead with 12 minutes to play. Bard kept the score within 8 for most of the way through the half, until Haim sunk a 3-pointer with 29 seconds to play to extend the lead back to 11. The Raptors would get a last second basket, and Yeshiva went into the half with a 22-13 advantage.
Yeshiva led the second half until the 7-minute mark, when Bard took their first lead of the night on a 3-pointer to give them a 1 point advantage. After
Chen Biron tied the game with a foul shot on the next possession, a Bard layup gave them their second lead, this time by 2. However, Biron would once again take the lead back for his team, this time on a long range shot. Although Bard came back to tie the game with 2:57 remaining, Yeshiva did not allow Bard to lead again. After a 5-0 run that left the game clock at only 6 seconds, Yeshiva withstood a Bard 3-pointer and
Chen Sina recorded his only steal on the game's final play to prevent Bard from getting a last second shot off.
Up next for Yeshiva will be a game at Old Westbury on November 30th at 8PM. The Macs will return home for a game against Farmingdale on December 2nd, before going on the road for two straight at Mount Saint Vincent and NYU-Polytechnic.
