NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team fell victim to a hot shooting Sage team that connected on 56% of their shots, building a 19 point lead only 6:30 into the game. Yeshiva came as close as 6 in the second half, but were unable to cut into the lead anymore. The Macs dropped to 2-8 (2-5) while Sage got their first conference win and are 3-6 (1-4).
Two Maccabees scored in double figures, led by
Dovie Hoffman with 18 and
Gil Bash with 11. Hoffman pulled down a team high 9 rebounds followed by
Chen Sina with 6.
Jeremy Pressman dished out 4 assists.
The Gators came out of the gates quickly, connecting on 8 of their first 10 shots, to build a 22-3 edge only seven minutes into the game. Yeshiva worked that 19 point deficit down to 11 entering the locker room at the half.
The Gators wasted no time building their lead back to 19, as they opened the second half with an 11-3 run. They led by 21 a few minutes later which proved to be their largest lead, but the Maccabees had a run of their own. A 14-2 run brought the Macs to within 45-54 at the 8:41 mark, giving them a good chance to get the win. The teams went back and forth before
Chen Biron hit a trifecta that cut the Sage lead to 6 with 3:41 remaining. Unfazed, the Gators scored the next 6 to bring their lead back to double digits, and closed the game with an 11-5 run to give them the 72-60 win.
This was the final home game of the semester for Yeshiva, who will be home next on January 22nd against Maritime. This Sunday, the Macs will take on Baruch College at noon (game will be played at Hunter College) in the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer game.
