NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva Maccabees took part in the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Sunday, that was held at the Lehman College Gymnasium. The Macs took on Baruch but fell 72-50 to a 6-3 Baruch team. Yeshiva is now 2-9 on the season.
Yeshiva scored the games' first 5 points, but the lead was short lived. Tied at 9 with 14:11 on the clock, Baruch opened the game up with an 8-2 run, and later pushed their lead to 11 in the first half. A three-pointer by
Omer Haim cut the lead to single digits, but it was answered by Baruch in the final seconds to give the Bearcats a 10 point edge at the half.
The halftime deficit proved to be the closest the Macs would get in the second half, as Baruch pushed their lead to 18 in the opening minutes. Yeshiva finished the second half shooting nearly 48% from the field, but their defense allowed a 59% effort from Baruch as the Bearcats outscored the Macs 41-29 in the half.
Dovie Hoffman scored a team high 15 points, followed by
Omer Haim with 12. Haim also had 5 assists and 4 steals in 35 minutes played.
The Maccabees have two more games remaining this semester, both on the road. They will travel to Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday for an 8PM game, and the travel to St. Joseph's on Sunday the 19th for a 2PM game.
