NEW YORK, NY – The baseball team dropped both games of their double header to Maritime Sunday, 4-1 and 6-0. The Maccabees are 0-9 (0-6) on the season, while Maritime improved to 4-3 (3-1) on the season.
In game 1,
David Kesselman pitched a solid 8 innings, striking out 6 while giving up 7 hits and 4 runs (3 earned). He pitched 8 complete innings while giving up only 1 run, but the 9th inning proved costly as he was unable to get an out and was responsible for the runs scored by Maritime.
Zachary Weiner came in on relief and struck out 2 in the 9th while giving up a hit. The Macs had 5 hits, all from different players.
Yoseph Ciment got Yeshiva on the board in the 5th inning with an RBI single.
Seth Fein had Yeshiva's only extra base hit with a triple in the third.
In the second game, Maritime jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. Their starting pitcher went the entire game and allowed only one hit. That hit came in the 5th inning to Weiner who singled with two outs.
Dani Wizenfeld was the losing pitcher, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs (4 earned) in 2 innings of work.
Howard Avner came in and pitched three innings, striking out 5 and giving up 1 run.
Next on the schedule for the Maccabees is Purchase College on Tuesday night. The Macs are hosting the 8PM game at Taft HS. Their final game before the break will be on Wednesday at Old Westbury.
