NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva baseball team took leads after the first innings of each game of their Sunday double header against St. Joseph's Brooklyn, but were unable to hold on for the win. They lost game one 9-3 and 15-2 in the second game. The team is still looking for their first win with 3 games remaining on the schedule.
After the top half of the first inning, the Macs held a 3-0 advantage thanks to 3 hits for the team.
Binyamin Cooper doubled in the first run, and
Adam Volk followed with an RBI single of his own. Volk later scored on an error by the shortstop before the inning ended on a long fly ball.
Benjamin Susswein was on the mound in the opening game for the Macs, and finished his 3 innings with 5 hits, 7 runs, and 4 walks. Yeshiva held their lead for 3 innings, before St. Joseph's scored 3 in the 3rd and 3 more in the fourth. Yeshiva had 7 hits in the game.
Much like game 1, Yeshiva jumped up on their opponent in the top half of the first inning, this time manufacturing 2 runs without recording a hit. A bases loaded groundout by
Drew Feld scored the first run. A St. Joseph's wild pitch scored
David Kesselman for the second run.
Unfortunately, St. Joseph's tied the game in their half of the inning, and went on to score 4 and 3 runs over the next two innings to break the game open. Adam Volk was the losing pitcher for the Maccabees, throwing 2.2 innings and giving up 3 hits, 9 runs, and 8 walks while striking out 1.
Zachary Weiner had two solid game for Yeshiva, batting 4-7 with a run scored.
Seth Fein ended the day 3-7.
Binyamin Cooper was Yeshiva's final multi-hit performer, finishing the evening 2-5.
The team will be hosting Baruch College for a double header on Tuesday beginning at 3:30PM. The game is being held at Bronx Community College. On Wednesday, the team will play their final game of the season at the College of Staten Island at 7:30PM.
