NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva men's basketball team (3-13, 3-9) ended a 6-game losing streak with a 75-65 home victory over the Dolphins from Mount Saint Vincent (12-5, 7-5). The Macs shot 55% from the field, while limiting their opponent to only 35%.
Gil Bash had a career night, scoring 26 points on 7-7 shooting from the field, including 1-1 from behind the arc and a near perfect 11-13 from the free throw line. He pulled down 9 boards and recorded 6 assists and 2 steals.
Dovie Hoffman had 12 points, followed by
Simon Brookim with 11 and
Jeremy Pressman with 10. Pressman led all players with 7 assists.
Yeshiva opened the game with
Gil Bash hitting a lay-up and finishing the three-point play with a free throw, and the Macs went ahead 12-2 in the first 4 minutes of play. They increased their lead to as much as 14 midway through the first half, and ended the opening 20 minutes with a 35-30 lead.
The Dolphins responded with a run of their own to open the second half, pulling to within 1 at the 13:15 mark. However, the Macs scored the next six and never really looked back. The Dolphins did get the margin down to 3 with about 3 minutes remaining, but Yeshiva once again scored 9 straight to and put the game out of reach. The Macs sealed the game from the free-throw line, connecting on 9-10 in the final minute (7-8 from Bash). Yeshiva never trailed from start to finish.
Yeshiva will look to continue their winning ways on the road at Purchase Wednesday evening at 8PM. The two teams met at the MSAC the first game of the season and Purchase won 61-48.
