Box Score NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team nearly defeated the top ranked team in the Skyline, falling to St. Joseph's 75-68 at home Sunday afternoon. The Macs (2-11, 2-6) found themselves down only 2 at the half but St. Joseph's (8-1, 4-0) outscored Yeshiva by 5 in the second half to get the conference win.
Dovie Hoffman led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds, his third double-double of the season.
Chen Biron added 11 and
Gil Bash had 10.
Benjamin Ritholtz came off the bench and scored 7 points in 17 minutes.
Omer Haim led the team with 8 assists.
The Macs started the game with the first two points, and played a very close game in the first half, leading by as much as three but never finding themselves down by more than 9. Once the Eagles got to that 9-point edge, Yeshiva scored 8 straight to get right back in the game.
Arman Davtian hit a free throw in the final seconds to cut the St. Joseph's lead to 2 (33-31) going into the half.
Yeshiva opened the second half with a 7-2 run, taking a three point advantage over the visitors. Although the Eagles scored the next 4 points, Haim hit a long three-pointer to put Yeshiva back up by 2. A basket by Ritholtz a few minutes later, putting the Macs up 1, proved to be Yeshiva's final lead of the game. The Eagles answered each Yeshiva basket with their own, building their lead up to 5 on multiple occasions down the stretch. Despite Yeshiva pulling to with 3 with 40 seconds to play, the Macs were unable to hit another basket and St. Joseph's finished the game with 4 free throws for the 7 point win.
The Macs have one final game before the winter break, a road game at John Jay on the 27
th. The tip is set for 7PM.
