NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team took the 3 hour trip to Albany to face Sage College, and came home with an 86-81 victory. Yeshiva improved to 5-17 (5-13) while Sage fell to 12-11 (9-9).
Gil Bash scored a career best 35 points, 18 of which came from the free-throw line (18-19). His 35 points is the highest of any Maccabee player in over three years; Zach Gordon scored 41 in February 2008. Bash was 8-12 from the field and pulled down 4 rebounds in 33 minutes played. Three other Macs scored in double figures, as
Omer Haim added 12,
Simon Brookim had 10, and
Dovie Hoffman added 10. Haim had a team high 7 assists, while
Shlomo Weissberg had a team best 6 rebounds.
The Maccabees were down 42-38 at the half, as neither team led by more than 6 in the first half of play. Sage did extend their lead to 7 midway through the second half, but Yeshiva rallied behind 19 second half point from Bash and took the lead at the 7:51 mark for good. The Macs pushed their lead to 9 with a minute to go, and held on for the 5 point win.
The Macs will host Brooklyn College on Wednesday in the final non-conference game of the season. The start time has been pushed back to 815PM.
