NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva men's basketball team went to Maritime College Saturday night, and defeated the Privateers on their senior night, 60-58. The Macs stand at 6-18 (6-13) on the season. Yeshiva has their senior night tonight, against Bard College at 8PM.
Gil Bash led Yeshiva with 15 points, raising his season average to 12.5 points per game.
David Schmelzer and
Simon Brookim each chipped in 10 for the Macs, who shot over 52% from the field for the game. Yeshiva stole the ball 13 times and survived a last second three point attempt that would have won the game for the home team.
The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, neither able to build a lead of more than 2. Maritime went on a small run to lead by 6 midway through the first, but the Macs quickly closed that lead and went into the locker room down only two.
Maritime extended their lead to 8 at the 15 minute mark, but Yeshiva fought back to take a 3 point lead minutes later. Tied at 53 with just over 6 minutes to play, neither team was able to find the bottom of the net for the next 3 minutes, until
Simon Brookim hit a fast break layup. That basket gave the Macs the lead and they never gave it back.
Omer Haim hit a free throw with 19 seconds left to give Yeshiva a 2 point edge, and the Macs survived a last second 3 pointer to win 60-58.
Yeshiva's final game of the season will be tonight against Bard College. Senior Night will begin at 8PM.
