Yeshiva Baseball Sweeps John Jay in Thrillers

Senior Captain Jeremy Schwartz goes 3-4 with Two RBI's and is a Triple Shy of Cycle

New York, NY- The Yeshiva baseball team (3-4, 3-4 CUNYAC) came back from two early deficits to sweep John Jay (1-11, 0-2 CUNYAC) Friday afternoon. The Macs came back from a two run hole in the final inning to win 6-5 in the first game and scored five runs late in second game to win 6-4. The wins mark the first time Yeshiva has won both games of a double header.

In the first game, junior Adam Volk shut John Jays' bats down early giving up only four hits and one run through the first four innings. John Jay finally got to Volk in the 5th inning, as Dennis Lopez singled in a run and Wilmer Chavez followed up with an RBI double, giving them a 3-0 lead. Yeshiva's bats finally woke up in the top of the sixth as they erupted for three runs; highlighted by a two run triple by sophomore Gabriel Feld that made the score 3-2. Yaniv Lautman tied the game at 3 later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to score Feld. In the bottom of the inning, John Jay fired back scoring two runs and could have scored more with the bases loaded and two outs, but Zachary Weiner came in and got a key ground out that kept the deficit at two.

Yeshiva refused to lose as senior captain Jeremy Schwartz came up with one runner on and belted a two run home run to tie the game. Gabriel Feld followed with a single and advanced into scoring position after the center fielder misplayed the ball. Feld then stole third base and scored the go ahead run on an errant throw by the catcher. Feld came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh and recorded his first save and Yeshiva won 6-5. Zachary Weiner won his first game of the season.

The second game was very similar to the first. John Jay came out quick, taking an early 4-1 lead into the top of the fourth inning. Down 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Yeshiva loaded the bases with Joel Feigenbaum on deck. The sophomore came up with the game winning hit, doubling in three runs and giving Yeshiva the lead for good at 6-4. Zachary Weiner picked up his second win of the day pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up 2 earned runs. Gabriel Feld collected his second save of the day, recording a four out save.

Yeshiva will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to the CUNYAC defending champion College of Station Island at 4 PM.
