Box Score NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team was home against NYU-Poly Tuesday night, and came out with a 63-57 win. Yeshiva never trailed and led by as much as 15 points before the Blue Jays cut the lead to 4 with 43 seconds to play. Yeshiva hit their free throws (3-4) in those final seconds to seal the victory. The Macs improve to 3-14 (3-8) on the season.
Gil Bash led the scoring for Yeshiva with 17 points in 34 minutes.
Dovie Hoffman recorded a double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds, including the team's first 8 rebounds of the game. Both Hoffman and Bash had a team high 4 assists on the night.
Benjamin Ritholtz came off the bench and added 11 points, connecting on 3 from behind the arc.
The Blue Jays stayed with the Macs early on, countering every surge with a basket to keep it close. With a 2 point lead midway through the first half, Yeshiva scored 8 straight to open their first double digit lead. The Macs maintained that lead for the remainder of the half, going into the locker room with an 11 point (35-24) halftime lead.
Chen Biron opened the second half with a 3 pointer to extend the lead to 14 and
David Schmelzer hit a three at 13:15 to give the Macs their largest lead at 15. But the Blue Jays went on a 14-4 run, capped by a dunk from Brendan Henry, to get right back in the game. Yeshiva pushed the lead back to 9 but NYU-Poly quickly erased that and found themselves within 4 with 43 seconds remaining. Forced to foul, NYU-Poly hoped Yeshiva would miss their free throws, but the Macs hit 3 out of 4 and earned the 6 point win.
Yeshiva is on the road Thursday night at Old Westbury for an 8PM game, before returning home on Saturday to face Maritime at 830PM.
