NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva baseball team refused to allow a 26-3 loss in the opening game of a double-header against Maritime to ruin their Sunday afternoon. Instead, they erased an early 2-0 deficit in the second game to grab the season's first victory with a 5-2 win. Yeshiva limited their errors to 2 and smacked 7 hits, earning all 5 runs they scored in the game.
Joel Feigenbaum pitched 4 solid innings to earn the win, giving up only 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), and 3 walks. He struck out 4 of the 20 batters he faced.
Zevi Weisinger took over and shut down the Privateers, allowing only 2 hits and no runs, while striking out 2. Weisinger's biggest test came in the 6
th inning, after a single, passed ball and then a balk setup Maritime with a no-out, man on third situation. Zevi forced a line-out to short, struck out the next batter, and got a flyout to left to strand the runner on third and get the Macs out of their toughest situation of the game.
Leading the way at the plate was
Jake Frankel, who went 2-3 with a 2-RBI double in the third inning with 2 outs.
Yaniv Lautman was also 2-3 from the plate, including a double to the left-center gap in the 5
th inning. He later scored on an
Elie Baratz single.
Joel Feigenbaum got a run home with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Yeshiva managed 7 hits in the game and stole 7 bases. The biggest steal of the day was
Elie Baratz taking home, on a failed pick-off attempt by Maritime and a heads-up play by Baratz.
Yeshiva is back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to St. Joseph's College for a 4PM game. That double header is being played at Farmingdale State College.
