NEW YORK, NY – The men's volleyball team finished the regular season with an undefeated (7-0) conference record, and a top seed in the HVMAC tournament, but fell to the defending Champion Cooper Union Hawks 3-1 (24-26, 13-25, 25-18, 22-25) in the final game. The Macs defeated Webb Institute in the semifinal game 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12). The games were played at Sarah Lawrence College.
In the semifinal game against 4
th seeded Webb, the Macs got 14 kills from
Raphael Herskovits on 21 attempts along with a team high 10 digs.
Adam Rhodes assisted 25 times and had 2 service aces, while
Jack Voystock had 6 kills.
Elchanan Margolis had 9 digs in the match.
After defeating Webb, the Macs took on Cooper Union in the finals, after Cooper defeated St. Joseph's Brooklyn in the other semifinal matchup. Yeshiva had defeated Cooper Union twice during the regular season, the Hawks' only two losses of the conference season. However, similar to last season, the Macs were unable to make it a third straight and Cooper Union successfully defended their title.
Herskovits recorded 13 kills and had 10 more digs in the championship game, followed by
Naftali Rosenthal with 8 kills.
Adam Rhodes assisted on 29 kills and had a team high 13 digs.
After the finals, it was announced that Yeshiva's coach, Arnold Ross, was selected by the other conference coaches as this year's Coach of the Year. This was the second time Ross was named Coach of the Year, as he took home the honor after winning the conference title in 2010.
