Men's Basketball Picks up First Win of the Season, Beats CCNY 75-65

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team shot 55.8 percent from the field (29-for-52), including 59.1 percent (13-for-22) in the second half, en route to its first win of the season, as the Maccabees beat the City College of New York (CCNY) 75-65 at Nat Holman Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
 
The win improves Yeshiva to 1-2 overall this season, while CCNY is now 0-2.
 
The Maccabees were led by Yisroel Feld with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting, while Shlomo Weissberg and Benjy Ritholtz added 16 points each. Weissberg, who shot 6-for-8 from the floor, added 13 rebounds for his second straight double-double of the season.
 
CCNY was paced by Khalil Hamer with 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting. He was the lone member of the Beavers to score in double figures.
 
The Maccabees were in control from the outset. They raced out to a 6-0 lead to start the game and led 39-17 at halftime. Yeshiva led by as much as 32 in the contest, and the Maccabees led 60-28 with 10:17 to go in the second half.
 
CCNY closed out the final 10 minutes of the game outscoring the Maccabees 37-15, but the game was well in hand.
 
Yeshiva held a 46-36 advantage on points in the paint, and 24-9 on second chance points.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a home game against St. Joseph's-Long Island in the 2013-14 Skyline Conference opener at 8 p.m.
