NEW YORK, N.Y.— In a game that saw a combined 155 field goal attempts, 58 turnovers and 49 points off those turnovers, it was the College of St. Elizabeth who came out on top in the end as they beat the Yeshiva Maccabees 82-77 in an exciting wild game on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Maccabees fall to 1-3 on the young season, while the College of St. Elizabeth wins its first game of the season and improves to 1-1.
Yeshiva was led by
Rebecca Yoshor with 27 points, 22 rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots. Meanwhile
Stephanie Greenberg added 21 points and six rebounds.
Julia Owen, who had a triple double on Thursday in the previous game, fell just shy of her second straight triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, four blocked shots and three steals.
The College of St. Elizabeth was led by Ashley Pledger with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelly O'Dell had a great all around game with 15 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and seven steals.
Yeshiva committed a season-high 34 turnovers in the contest, while the visiting Screaming Eagles had 24. St. Elizabeth's held a 28-21 advantage on points off turnovers, and the Screaming Eagles held a 20-4 edge on fast break points.
Yeshiva returns to action on Saturday evening, Nov. 30 for the opening round of the Dr. Betty Shabazz tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College. The Maccabees will face the host Cougars at 8 p.m.
